Siler Descendants has been created as a central gathering place for the descendants of the Weimar Siler and Margaret Rafferty branch of the Siler family.
At Siler Descendantsyou will find information about the annual Siler Family Meeting in Franklin, NC. You will also be able to read some family history, read obituaries and see family photos of people and events.
Siler family history tells us that Weimar Siler was the second son of German immigrants Plikard Dederick Siler and Elizabeth Hartsoe, who, according to family tradition, arrived in America in 1741. Plikard's actual arrival date was more likely 1738.
Weimar Siler married Margaret Rafferty after the Revolutionary War and they began their life together in Virginia, where their eldest child, Esther, was born. From Virginia the family moved first to Pendleton, SC and later to Turkey Creek in Buncombe County, NC. Weimar and Margaret made their last move in 1827 to Macon County, NC where their sons had settled and built a home for their aging parents. Here Weimar died in 1831 and Margaret in 1839. They are both buried in the cemetery at the Franklin Methodist Church. Weimar and Margaret had nine children.
The Siler Descendants website is a work in progress and we need your help to keep the Siler family history alive for new generations. Send us your photos, stories, anecdotes, useful links etc. Though the site focuses on Weimar and Margaret's descendants, we welcome news and information from all branches of the family.
